Memorial Day

Memorial Day
Freedom is not free. Our liberty was paid for by the sacrifices of many brave souls. For all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, we humbly thank you! Memory eternal!

“Memorial Day is an occasion of special importance to all Americans, because it is a day sacred to the memory of all those Americans who made the supreme sacrifice for the liberties we enjoy. We will never forget or fail to honor these heroes to whom we owe so much. We honor them best when we resolve to cherish and defend the liberties for which they gave their lives. Let us resolve to do all in our power to assure the survival and the success of liberty so that our children and their children for generations to come can live in an America in which freedom’s light continues to shine.” ~ Ronald Reagan Continue Reading »

No Google Special Logo for Memorial Day

Google Home Page - Memorial Day 2010

5/31/2010 – Chris Banescu –

Google once again fails to commemorate Memorial Day with a special logo. Google has ignored this special day every year since 1999, when it first began using customized logos on its main page to mark particular holidays. The only reminder of this important day on Google’s home page is a tiny graphic of a yellow ribbon superimposed on a small American flag. Apparently, the sacrifices made by millions of American soldiers through the ages in defense of freedom and preservation of our liberties and the lives of hundreds of millions of other people around the world is not worthy of recognition.

Google has created hundreds of different special logos called Google Doodles to commemorate all sorts of lesser holidays and special days throughout the year. This year Google took the time to create special logos to celebrate such “memorable” days and “momentous” events as PAC-MAN’s 30th Anniversary, Earth Day, and April Fool’s Day. Continue Reading »

How to Cripple the Free Economy

Socialist Policies Undermine American Economic Prosperity

5/29/2010 – Chris Banescu –
The socialist policies implemented by the Obama administration and the Democrat leadership undermine America’s economic prosperity and prolong the misery for millions of companies and workers. Despite passing multi-trillion dollar government tax and spend initiatives, numerous bailouts of failed businesses, and repeated extensions of government benefits, Americans are suffering and the economy is languishing. Nationwide the unemployment rate has risen to 9.9%, while mortgage defaults and foreclosure rates have surged to record numbers.

Even with the tens of billions of dollars Congress has spent on preventing consumer mortgage defaults and home foreclosures, things have not improved much. How could they? Such government bailout measures are temporary band-aids that fail to address the structural problems our economy faces. They only delay the inevitable and push the problem further down the road. It doesn’t matter that house payments are now lower and the government has picked up the tab for a few months. If Americans cannot find a job or raise the capital to start a business they won’t have the money to pay even reduced mortgage payments. Continue Reading »

The Vanity Of Big Government

5/28/2010 – Mark Steyn –
One of the chief characteristics of Barack Obama’s speechifying is its contempt for words as anything other than props of self-puffery. Consider, for example, his recent remarks to the graduating class of the United States Military Academy:

“America has not succeeded by stepping out of the currents of cooperation — we have succeeded by steering those currents in the direction of liberty and justice.”

“Steering those currents”? How could even a member of the president’s insulated, self-regarding speechwriting team be so tin-eared as to write that line? How could the president be so tone-deaf as to deliver it in May of 2010? Hey, genius, if you’re so damn good at “steering currents,” why not try doing it in the Gulf of Mexico? Continue Reading »

Palin: ‘Passing the Buck Doesn’t Plug the Darn Hole’

Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin

5/27/2010 – Sarah Palin –
Nearly 40 days in, our President finally addressed the American people’s growing concerns about the Gulf Coast oil spill. Listening to today’s press conference, you’d think the administration has been working with single-minded focus on the Gulf gusher since the start of the disaster. In reality, their focus has been anything but singular to help solve this monumental problem.

If the President really was fully focused on this issue from day one, why did it take nine whole days before the administration asked the Department of Defense for help in deploying equipment needed for the extreme depth spill site?

Why was the expert group assembled by Energy Commissioner Steven Chu only set up three weeks after the start of this disaster? Continue Reading »

Chris Matthews Finds His Backbone, Criticizes Obama’s Incompetence

Chris Matthews Criticizes Obama5/27/2010 – Chris Banescu –

Chris Matthews: “This President is NOT acting like Commander-in-Chief!”

An amazing awakening has just occurred today at MSNBC. Chris Matthews, yes the same one that got the tingle up his leg when he heard Obama speak, has finally done it! He actually criticized Obama and his incompetent leadership. In a rather lengthy diatribe, Matthews really gave it to the President and raised many valid points:

… You screw up, you should be able to fix the problem.

Number 2, this is our North American land mass. This is part of our birthright. With the Grand Canyon, with Niagra Fall, Yosemite.. These are some of the wonderful things that we hope will always be here, the Gulf of Mexico. Is more important than the presidency. This president has no acted that way! Like this is more important than a fundraiser… or interview about basketball..

He doesn’t seem to be taking ownership. Presidents must seize control when something like this happens.

Robin Hood: A Conservative Hero

Robin Hood Conservative Hero

5/24/2010 – Michael van der Galien –
It’s popular these days for conservatives to criticize the defender of the poor and the oppressed, Robin Hood. Hood, they say, is nothing more than a socialist pretending to be a hero. He is, if you will, Karl Marx with a bow and couple of arrows. He steels from the wealthy and gives to the poor. It’s socialism in action, or so many contemporary conservative commentators argue.

Although I understand it that conservatives automatically oppose all those who dare “redistribute wealth” (or appear to), they are sorely mistaken to do so with Hood. Dismissing him as a Marxist is ludicrous and counterproductive; the former because he is actually a very American (classically liberal and conservative) hero, the latter because the audience will sympathize with him regardless of the criticism. The Consequences of Religious Apathy

Ken Connor

Ken Connor

4/30/2010 – Ken Connor –
“Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.” Alexis de Tocqueville

In his treatise, The Christian Manifesto, published in 1981, Francis Schaeffer suggests that the gradual shift away from a Judeo-Christian (or at least a Creationist) worldview towards a materialistic view of reality has broad sociological and governmental implications for western society. His is an interesting thesis to ponder in light of a recent article in USA Today discussing religion and the Millennial Generation.

The article cites a recent survey conducted by Lifeway Christian Resources, which reveals that Millennials (defined as Americans born approximately between 1980 and 1995) are distancing themselves from traditional religious forms in favor of a personally-defined, nebulous kind of “spirituality.” These individuals are less likely to pray, they don’t read the Bible, and they don’t go to church. Among the 65% who identify themselves as Christian, “many are either mushy Christians or Christians in name only. . . . Most are just indifferent.” Theological indifference may seem like no big deal in an age where moral relativism and the cult of the individual reign, but it’s worth considering Schaeffer’s argument that – whether we realize it or not – our understanding of religion and its role in society has a direct impact on our politics. An Open Letter to Richard Blumenthal, AG of Connecticut

5/19/2010 – Thaddeus Wojcik –
US Army Veteran Patch
Dear Mr. Attorney General:

Like yourself, I am a non-combat veteran of the US Armed Forces. I served four years active duty in the United States Army. I served honorably as a “cold warrior” in a tactical intelligence unit near the East German Border in the FRG as an intelligence analyst and Russian translator.

I’ve not only listened to the news recently, I’ve focused on what you’ve said, the import (literal and colloquial) of the words, and listened to it in context. Though proud to state what I believe, at times forcefully, I am not prone to histrionics, and believe in giving the benefit of the doubt; I insist on the whole story, and I recognize that at times reasonable minds may differ.

Yet, while each of us fails in our own respective areas of human fallibility, your sins of semantic gilding require a bold, uneuphemized apology; I dare say, too, that your withdrawal from the election and your resignation from your current position would be the minimal steps sufficiently weighty to put substance behind the form of such an apology. California Legal Status Verification Law Similar to Arizona’s SB1070

California's Own Version of SB1070

5/18/2010 – B. Chrysostom –

It appears that the California Penal Code (Section 834b) includes legal status verification language that is quite similar to Arizona’s recently passed SB1070 law.

Looking at the exact language of the California Penal Code under “CHAPTER 5. ARREST, BY WHOM AND HOW MADE ……. 833-851.90” under Section 834b one can find this language: “The verification process may include, but shall not be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding documentation to indicate his or her legal status.Continue Reading »

Why Conservatives Love the Founders

5/16/2010 – James Lewis –
History is full of Obamas, and the people who idolized such power-hungry self-glorifying narcissists. The Founders understood human history in their very bones, because they read history from the Bible to the Roman Empire, Europe’s bloody and tyrannical history, and the Americas. If you want to understand Obama, just look at any idolized hero in Latin America: Chavez, Fidel, Bolivar, Juan Peron. Look at European monarchs. Look at Napoleon.

They are all the famous Man on Horseback, the hero of the hour who instantly turns into a tyrant. Even today Latin America is bedeviled by its own Obamas, who all demand to be idolized and worshipped. Obamas are a dime a dozen. Continue Reading »

Tyranny of Tolerance

Chuck Colson

5/11/2010 – Chuck Colson –
Is the U.S. Flag Offensive?

The right of free speech is guaranteed by the Constitution. The right to not be offended is not. But guess which right trumped the other in a California school last week.

The two students were minding their own business—just sitting at a table on a school break, chatting with their friends. And then the vice principal of the school walked up to the boys—and ordered them to remove their American flag bandanas. Their T-shirts also featured the Stars and Stripes. The boys were told to turn them inside out, so the flags wouldn’t show.

The boys—who often wore these kind of clothes—refused, and were sent to the principal’s office. There, they were told their T-shirts were “incendiary,” and would provoke fights. Continue Reading »

Free Markets: Pro-Rich or Pro-Poor?

5/12/2010 – Walter E. Williams –
Listening to America’s liberals, who now prefer to call themselves progressives, one would think that free markets benefit the rich and harm the poor, but little can be further from the truth. First, let’s first say what free markets are. Free markets, or laissez-faire capitalism, refer to an economic system where there is no government interference except to outlaw and prosecute fraud and coercion. It ought to be apparent that our economy cannot be described as free market because there is extensive government interference. We have what might be called a mixed economy, one with both free market and socialistic attributes. If one is poor or of modest means, where does he fare better: in the freer and more open sector of our economy or in the controlled and highly regulated sector? Let’s look at it. Continue Reading »

America Becomes Mexico’s Outsourced Welfare System

5/10/2010 – B. Chrysostom –
America Becomes Welfare System for Mexico
We often hear the left and liberals claim that illegal immigrants, especially those from Mexico, only come here to work. Unfortunately, an increasingly larger percentage of those who break the law and enter the country illegally come here solely to benefit from America’s generous social welfare system, free healthcare provided to anyone that walks into an emergency room, and the many free government programs.

Take a look at the chart provided (courtesy of Stand with Arizona). It shows that “Mexican immigrants use America’s social services at multiples not only to native-born Americans, but other immigrants as well–using more than TWICE the amount of total welfare as native-born Americans.” Continue Reading »
