The distance between the president and the people is beginning to be revealed.
The deepening notes of disenchantment with Barack Obama now issuing from commentators across the political spectrum were predictable. So, too, were the charges from some of the president’s earliest enthusiasts about his failure to reflect a powerful sense of urgency about the oil spill.
There should have been nothing puzzling about his response to anyone who has paid even modest critical attention to Mr. Obama’s pronouncements. For it was clear from the first that this president—single-minded, ever-visible, confident in his program for a reformed America saved from darkness by his arrival—was wanting in certain qualities citizens have until now taken for granted in their presidents. Namely, a tone and presence that said: This is the Americans’ leader, a man of them, for them, the nation’s voice and champion. Mr. Obama wasn’t lacking in concern about the oil spill. What he lacked was that voice—and for good reason. more »

As President Obama and Congressional Democrats attempt to straddle election-year fences in the wake of massive “tea party” rebellion against the health-care takeover and numerous other liberal assaults on individual rights, they are finding themselves targeted by protestors from an unusual quarter: their own left-wing base.
At the “America’s Future Now” conference being held in Washington, D.C. as of this writing, for instance, Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca, 8th District), found herself on the receiving end, for a change, of calls for “change”: more »

The latest jobs report is solid evidence that Obama’s big government, high tax, Washington-centered, bureaucratic, politician-dominated system is going to kill jobs and extend the current economic problems far longer than what is normal for a recession.
None of this should come as a surprise. Job-killing policies kill jobs. It is that simple and direct.
In my new book To Save America: Stopping Obama’s Secular-Socialist Machine and in a keynote speech to the Detroit Chamber of Commerce last week, I outline the concept that 2+2=4 is the most important political and governmental slogan of the next 25 years. more »

Another campaign is on the way in Arizona to wake the country to the financial disaster and economic nightmare Obama is foisting on America’s future. A very large billboard ad created by an anonymous advertiser shows President Obama’s face overlaid on a mock U.S. $100,000,000,000,000 (100 TRILLION dollars) bill with the message “But Who Will Pay the Piper?”
The powerful advertisement easily makes the point. It is us, our children, and grand-children, the American people and taxpayers, who will have to make the enormous sacrifices to pay down this astronomical debt made that much worse by Obama and the Democrat Congress in the last year and a half. more »

History is full of Obamas, and the people who idolized such power-hungry self-glorifying narcissists. The The culture war begun in the sixties has, in large part, been won by the left. Nowhere is this clearer than in the feminization of men. The virtues of manhood which had been extolled and celebrated throughout the middle ages right up to the 1950s have been completely expunged from academia and pop culture. The baby boom generation was the last to be taught the values of rugged individualism, risk-taking, courage, bravery, loyalty, and reverence for tradition. John Wayne epitomized the rugged individual who was committed to fighting “the bad guy,” but he was only one of a whole host of competing figures cut out of the same cloth. What happened? more »

One of the chief characteristics of Barack Obama’s speechifying is its contempt for words as anything other than props of self-puffery. Consider, for example, his recent remarks to the graduating class of the United States Military Academy:
“America has not succeeded by stepping out of the currents of cooperation — we have succeeded by steering those currents in the direction of liberty and justice.”
“Steering those currents”? How could even a member of the president’s insulated, self-regarding speechwriting team be so tin-eared as to write that line? How could the president be so tone-deaf as to deliver it in May of 2010? Hey, genius, if you’re so damn good at “steering currents,” why not try doing it in the Gulf of Mexico? more »

With the support of 70 percent of its citizens, Arizona has ordered sheriffs and police to secure the border and remove illegal aliens, half a million of whom now reside there.
Arizona acted because the U.S. government has abdicated its constitutional duty to protect the states from invasion and refuses to enforce America’s immigration laws. “We in Arizona have been more than patient waiting for Washington to act,” said Gov. Jan Brewer. “But decades of inaction and misguided policy have created an unacceptable situation.”
We have a crisis in Arizona because we have a failed state in Washington. more »

The way Bill Maher sees it, resistance to ObamaCare is all God’s fault. Why? Because so many people believe in this “schmuck” who lives in the clouds…and this belief, in turn, intensifies opposition to ObamaCare.
This leftist social critic, anti-Christian crusader, and HBO comedy show host warned God at the end of last week to back off, to allow smart people like himself and Barack Obama and the New York Times editorial board to push the God-fearing “ignoramuses” aside this week and take control of the nation’s health care. more »

In the USSR, economic equality was achieved by redistributing wealth, ensuring that everyone remained poor, with the exception of those doing the redistributing. Only the ruling class of communist leaders had access to special stores, medicine and accommodations that could compare to those in the West. [...]
In the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, I was taught to believe individual pursuits are selfish and sacrificing for the collective good is noble. In kindergarten we sang songs about Lenin, the leader of the Socialist Revolution. In school we learned about the beautiful socialist system, where everybody is equal and everything is fair; about ugly capitalism, where people are exploited and treat each other like wolves in the wilderness.
Life in the USSR modeled the socialist ideal. God-based religion was suppressed and replaced with cultlike adoration for political figures. more »

Obama’s latest attempt to shove the government takeover of healthcare down the throats of the American people has taken yet another insane turn. On Monday (3/15), in his Health Care Reform address in Strongsville, Ohio, President Obama claimed that ObamaCare will reduce insurance premiums by as much as “3,000 percent.” The words lie and impossible are insufficient to describe the outright idiocy and ridiculousness of such a preposterous assertion.
Unhappy with just spreading fear and misinformation about America’s healthcare system, trashing insurance companies, defaming conservative opponents, avoiding a fair and balanced debate of the facts, and strong-arming Congress into passing the 2,700 page healthcare bill monstrosity without proper due process and allowing lawmakers to vote on the actual healthcare legislation, Obama is now insulting our intelligence. more »

President-of-the-World Obama is at it again. Apparently, he feels that the problems in this country are too small for him, or else they have all been solved. His wisdom and greatness are too important to be squandered on only one nation. They must be made available to save the entire world.
In his latest initiative, Obama takes “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help you” across national borders. The White House recently “announced a ‘summit on entrepreneurship’ to build economic ties with the Islamic world, part of President Barack Obama’s outreach to Muslims.” It has invited participants from more than forty countries over five continents for the April 26-27 conference in Washington. more »

All across the country there were demonstrations on March 4 by students (and some faculty) against cuts in higher education funding, but inevitably attention focused on California, where the modern genre originated in 1964. I joined the University of California faculty in 1966 and so have watched a good many of them, but have never seen one less impressive that this year’s. In 1964 there was focus and clarity. This one was brain-dead.
The former idealism and sense of purpose had degenerated into a self-serving demand for more money at a time when both state and university are broke, and one in eight California workers is unemployed. The elite intellectuals of the university community might have been expected to offer us insight into how this problem arose, and realistic measures for dealing with it. But all that was on offer was this: get more money and give it to us. Californians witnessing this must have wondered whether the money they were already providing was well spent where there was so little evidence of productive thought. more »

As reported by The Washington Post, “President Obama’s proposed budget would add more than $9.7 trillion to the national debt over the next decade, congressional budget analysts said Friday.” CNN adds, “Of that amount, an estimated $5.6 trillion will be in interest alone.”
The Post continues: “The CBO (Congressional Budget Office) and the White House (are) … both predicting a deficit of about $1.5 trillion this year — a post-World War II record at 10.3 percent of the overall economy. But the CBO is considerably less optimistic about future years, predicting that deficits would never fall below 4 percent of the economy under Obama’s policies and would begin to grow rapidly after 2015. more »

Detroit, the very symbol of American industrial might for most of the 20th century, is drawing up a radical renewal plan that calls for turning large swaths of this now-blighted, rusted-out city back into the fields and farmland that existed before the automobile.
Operating on a scale never before attempted in this country, the city would demolish houses in some of the most desolate sections of Detroit and move residents into stronger neighborhoods. Roughly a quarter of the 139-square-mile city could go from urban to semi-rural. more »

Al Gore is nothing but a two-bit charlatan, but he is treated by the press establishment like a prophet, a courageous leader, a selfless crusader, a man of vision and ideals.
Which are you going to believe: Al Gore or your own eyes?
Forget what we in the United States and many around the world have experienced this winter, he writes in a New York Times op-ed. It may seem colder, but this is exactly what should be expected in a global-warming scenario, he claims. Just as a snowless winter in Washington a few years ago was also exactly what we should expect.
If it’s hot, blame global warming. If it’s cold, blame climate change.
Al Gore is not a serious person. He’s a get-rich-quick artist who is peddling the biggest con game in the history of man. more »
